My last cartoon was summery, too: a day at the beach, with, I think you could describe them as a mixed-race couple.
Here’s another hot weather one, and I think the lady of the house is getting hot under the collar, as well. It’s the little things that he does.
Probably no one on TV had as much influence over people as Oprah, when she had her daily show. Why was everyone so mesmerized by her interviews and guests?
I’m a strong disbeliever in schadenfreude (can’t believe I spelled that right), as I think people really want help with their own problems, not to be happy when other people have trouble. So I thought I’d look it up: what were her most popular shows, anyway? There are several lists floating around, many of them compiled by Oprah herself (her lists!), but the Today show had a good selection:
- Her red wagon of the fat she lost (eww)
- Michael Jackson (most watched)
- Mad cow disease, where she met Phil McGraw
- Little boy
- Her favorite things
- Tom Cruise on the couch
- James Frey (who?)
I saw some of these. Did anyone see all of them?
More recently, Fast Company interviewed Oprah after she took over OWN.
Fast talks about her continuing empire, her Book Club, etc, and goes on to say:
Words like mission are common when you talk to Winfrey’s most trusted executives; conversations are full of terms like disciples, sacred, moral compass, and spiritual leader.
