Do you have a secure base?

If you grew up in a family in which emotions and relationships were chaotic, it is likely that you will go on to struggle with emotions and relationships.  One way of thinking and developing understanding of your situation is to think in terms of whether you have a secure base?

I grew up in a house where emotions were not expressed, sentiment was ridiculed and there was a lot of anger. The silent treatment was used when a parent was displeased and we were treated as if we did not exist until the anger subsided. I have had two episodes of depression in the past and still have anxiety. I have been very fortunate in working with an excellent psychiatrist who is also my therapist. Over the last three years with his help I am learning how to handle my emotions and in the last six months have been able to become attached to him and trust him. We have a strong relationship and for the first time in my life I feel safe. Therapy has been and still is transformative and healing for me. Thank you for explaining the secure base so clearly.

Wonderful site you have here but I was wondering if you knew of any community
forums that cover the same topics talked about in this
article? I’d really love to be a part of group where I
can get suggestions from other experienced individuals that share the same interest.
If you have any recommendations, please let me know. Thanks a lot!
