    Though they would never have admitted it, my parents’ number one rule for their kids was: make us look good. They showed nothing but viciousness towards their kids’ weaknesses, including shaming two bedwetters in the family, obviously to no good end. As adults, the kids show the same behavior toward each other, where the past has been walled off, never to be spoken of, and the only interaction between the siblings is a continual show of confidence and achievement. A more broken state of affairs could not be imagined.

    There is so much focus on self esteem. So many people think that high self esteem and loving themselves is the holy grail. There’s no talk about reality and facing their faults and weaknesses and this is exactly what people need most, IMO.
