    Why did the study only involve female participants? Doesn’t that mean that the results of this meditation study only apply to women?

    The author states, “There isn’t necessarily any one type of meditation better than another.”

    This is a common misconception, but it’s not actually true. Scientific research has shown that transcending techniques such as Transcendental Meditation (TM) and Natural Stress Relief (NSR) produce a unique physiological state of deep restful alertness.

    The value of such a unique state of the physiology is that it enables the nervous system to rid itself, effortlessly, of the many internalized stresses acquired over a lifetime.

    While dramatic results are not seen in every practitioner of transcending techniques, they are seen in many. Persistent bad habits are dropped, even physical addictions. Stress-based diseases are easily brought under control. Life becomes more pleasant and stressors morph into interesting challenges.

    Even those few clients who notice no particular results keep practicing for the sake of the profound refreshment provided by each session.

    The knowledge behind transcending is what makes it different. Instead of seeing thoughts as obstacles, for example, it makes use of the mind’s incessant habit of thinking to follow a thought to its source in pure awareness.

    Instead of seeking the elimination of thoughts, which is futile, transcending uses thoughts to discover inner peace and joy. This discovery transforms life, eventually eliminating all suffering.

    Nothing is more important to a suffering world than adding the practice of transcending to your life.
