What Can Inspiration Do For You?

Reminisce on Michael Jordan in the championship, Martin Kuther King Jr. presenting his “I Have a Dream” speech, or on any phenomenal act of human nature you can experience.

This is inspiration at its finest, and can be some of the most uplifting emotional experiences.

Inspiration comes during those moments when we see true human excellence. It’s an emotional experience that comes when we encounter extraordinary ability or competence in some activity, which motivates us to be better ourselves.

For me, I love to watch and listen to talented live musicians because I write and play music myself. I am focused in the moment and fully engaged in the performance, and in the end it makes me want to grow and develop as a musician.

Inspiration comes in many different forms and fashions of course. You may be more inclined to take part in athletics, art, writing, public speaking, or even everyday acts of inspiring kindness and strength.

Find people to connect with who inspire you. Think of someone you love for their wonderful qualities or a person full of compassion and generosity who tends to surprise and inspire you with their kindness.

Even more exciting is that research has revealed that the experience of inspiration can enhance our personal well-being and increase positive affect.

Below are a few emotional states connected to inspiration that can boost our well-being.

A sense of purpose

This is more than simply a drive to achieve a goal. A sense of purpose is about connecting to something greater than ourselves that fills us full of excitement and makes us feel alive. We have a reason for living and are driven by an inspiring vision. We feel moved to take action and live out this purpose.

This comes when we feel we have received value and that an external agent is the cause of this. We may very likely feel grateful when we experience the wonder and awe from an inspiring event or feat. When we embrace inspiration as a gift it takes our attention off of concerns, and helps us focus on what we admire and respect.

Think of a time you’ve been around an inspiring and moving person. Don’t you feel jazzed up and enlivened after these type of encounters? A feeling of energy and spirit can be results of inspiration, and true inspiration gives us motivation and liveliness to take action.

When we are truly inspired we may be in awe and feel a sense of amazement. There is almost spirituality to seeing inspiring feats and the vastness of human potential. We can moved beyond the ordinary and feel a connection to a powerful and greater source.

Inspiration is truly powerful because it allows us to expand our perspective on what is possible. We can see how truly great the human potential can be, and when it relates to a common talent we possess, it sparks motivation to take action, do more, and be more.
