2 thoughts on “Is It Depression Or Intelligence?

While I am significantly older than you (49), I am at a similar point in life. After significant trauma I began seeing a therapist 18 months ago after seriously considering suicide and suffering anxiety. Talk therapy and mindfulness pulled me back from the precipice but have left me in a perpetual state of malaise. I find little to no joy in my current life and keep myself going by “being there” for my 14-year old daughter. I am considering anti-depressant meds for the first time and I am scared. My therapist and I are in a constant struggle over my instinct to intellectualize everything before I feel it (or justify why I don’t deserve to have particular feelings). I fear losing myself; as if I am getting a lobotomy. It’s irrational, I know, but it is nonetheless present in my gut. Anyway, I wanted to let you know that I never related to anything more I read on this blog than your article. Thank you and good luck.

Thanks, Phillyosopher! (Cool name btw. I love Philly.)

Best of luck to you too. Thanks for sharing your story. It’s good to know a lot of people have the same fears.
