The next time you start feeling worthless, ask yourself this question:
What has more value? My mind, body, and soul, or the floor under my feet?
Certainly you are worth more than the floor. Only a fool would give this a second thought.
The pangs of depression have the potential to run very deep. Depression can make one feel so low that the mind begins to forget its own value. Feelings are the greatest deceivers. They pull a dark veil over the eyes and fool you into thinking you have no worth.
But I’m here to remind you that in every way, shape, and form you carry more value than you think, certainly more than the dirt under your feet. Can we agree on this? Good.
The principality of Monaco, I dare say, is rumored to be the playground for the very wealthy. With flashy casinos and yachts parked in beautiful marinas, this region of the world of 36,000 people boasts the most expensive real estate market in the world. Sorry Paris, but you’re the runner up according to 2013 data.
Forget the Formula One Grand Prix. The astonishing feature of Monaco is found in its rich buildings for two good reasons: the architecture is breathtaking, and the prices are breath-stopping.
One square foot of space can cost around $60,000. In central Monaco, a cool $1 million will buy you an entire 16 square feet of space.
Are You Worth $1 Million Dollars?
So if we can agree that you are worth more than the floor, and if we can agree that a floor is just a floor no matter the city or planet, then we can agree that you are worth more than a floor in Monaco.
But are you worth one square foot? A thousand square feet of floor space?
Let’s use real numbers. The average human body has approximately 20 square feet of skin surface area. According to Dr. Howard Bennett, every square inch of skin contains 20 feet of blood vessels, 100 oil glands and 650 sweat glands.
Applying the fair market value of Monaco real estate space, you are worth around $1.2 Million after multiplying 20 square feet by $60,000. If this feels a bit tongue-in-cheek, it is.
We Stand Above the Floor
This little thought experiment speaks to the overwhelming evidence that you and I carry great worth. Despite our feelings of worthlessness, our intellect may save the day to remind us that we do indeed carry immeasurable value as living breathing human beings with amazing physiology and soul.
I bet you never thought of yourself in quite these terms of floor value. It’s the lowest kind of comparison, and even then you’re worth over a million dollars. Imagine your worth when compared to more meaningful and valuable things.
Surely, you’re worth more than the floor. More than $1.2 Million that is.
