I so connect with this. It is the simple things as well. The other day, I was getting a fork out of our silverware drawer. We have two kinds, a thicker metal, and the thinner ones. I pulled the thicker metal one out, they are too heavy and thick for me. I don’t like them, but instead of shrugging and saying, “you get what you get”, I stopped the horid voice in my head that claimed I had not right to exactly what I want. I grabbed a thinner one. It started a chain that day. Which bath towel do I prefer? I even bought my own salad dressing, instead of bowing down to whatever everyone else likes. I didn’t realize that my folks still had a hand on me until I heard that voice say, “you get what you get”.

I SO relate to your comment!! I’m still in “serving” mode and often, very often, have to also remind myself that it’s okay to do what I want, buy what I like, give myself a treat, splurge on a fluffy bath towel, take a full 50% of the bacon, etc. Thanks for commenting.
