Isn’t this called Denial of Reality?

When things become too painful for a person to deal with, or they are deeply ashamed of what’s happening to them. Anyway, it’s a coping tactic all be it a bad one. Some therapists are much easier to open up to and others not. All in all lying to ones self is the worst kind of lie. I tried to help a family member who was in a bad relationship but all she did was deny the reality of it. I then detached from her knowing that until she faces up to the truth she was stuck. It’s such a shame.

Denial is a real thing, and I’ve learned over the years that it’s impeded in my being, so it has just become something that I have to constantly work on. At least I can say with confidence that I am not in denial about being in denial! e

Erica, I hope that you can find a good therapist to work with you. Many people don’t acknowledge when they are in denial. Good Luck to you.

If I told the truth to my psychologist, he would have me committed. The only thing the psych wards at the local hospitals due is give you your meds, three meals and a place to sleep for about $2000 per day. I’m better off lying.
