What Is Straterra?

Introduction

You may have heard of it. You may have not heard of it. One medication used to treat ADHD is called Strattera. What makes Strattera different from other ADHD medications? The answer is Strattera is a non-stimulant used to treat the symptom associated with ADHD (Silver, 2015). In this article, I will describe the advantages and disadvantages of taking the medication called Strattera.

The Advantages Of Taking Strattera

According to Bailey (2009), “Strattera is not considered to be addictive and does not have “abuse potential.” Because the full effect of Strattera can take up to three to four weeks and it does not give a euphoric feeling, it is not used to get high. For adolescents and adults who are prone to substance abuse or addiction, this medication might be a better alternative than stimulant medications.” In addition, according to Bailey (2009), “The medication, when taken as directed, provides 24 hour relief from symptoms of ADHD. That means, as a parent, your child will be able to complete homework in the evening without taking additional information and mornings might not turn into a daily power struggle because the medication is still working.” Therefore, in contrast to Adderall, for instance, which can be highly addictive, Strattera does not have this impact.  In addition, Strattera can last up to 24 hours. Consider taking Straterra. However, first contact your doctor.

The Disadvantages Of Taking Straterra

According to Bailey (2009), the disadvantages of taking Straterra for children and teens include “stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, dizziness, daytime sleepiness, mood swings, and increased heart rate and blood pressure.” According to Bailey (2009), for adults, the disadvantages of taking Staterra include “constipation, dry mouth, insomnia, dizziness, increased menstrual flow and cramps in women, problems urinating or pain when urinating.” According to Bailey (2009), “If you are having any side effects, including sexual side effects, from Strattera, talk with your doctor.  Sometimes adjusting the dosage can help alleviate the side effects. In some cases, your doctor might suggest lowering your dosage or trying a different medication.” This is of utmost importance. Be wise when using Strattera.

Conclusion

Stattera is a new medication for the treatment of ADHD. However, on a further note, if you use it properly with proper instructions from your doctor, the advantages or benefits of Strattera will definitely outweigh the side effects or disadvantages of this medication. Consider taking Strattera if needed. However, be wise and consult with your doctor first and foremost.
