Nine Teachings To Challenge Your Life

balloons-overhead-1537807From the wisdom of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov:

  1. Joy is not a sidebar on your spiritual journey, it’s necessary to your spiritual journey. (Cultivate joy.)

2. If you believe you can destroy, believe you can repair. (You have the power to make things better.)

3. People believe forgetting is a bad thing. I say it is a good thing. Forget the troubles of your past. (Don’t let them inhabit your mind and rule your inner world.)

4. Today you feel positively uplifted–don’t let yesterday or tomorrow bring you down. (Be in the moment and do not allow thoughts about past or future to worry you.)

5. It is good to set aside a specific time (one hour) each day to be heartbroken and to share all your problems verbally with God, but the rest of the day be only happy. (Begin a dialogue with God or your higher power. Speak out loud and unburden yourself.)

6. Philosophy and complex intellectual wisdom aren’t necessary. Only pure and simple faith are truly necessary. Because too much sophistication can greatly damage a person. (Don’t let sophisticated people dictate your state of mind, don’t allow that cynical voice in your head to dictate your state of mind, either.)

7. Know! You need to judge every person favorably, even someone who is no good. You need to search and find any little bit of good in them. By finding in them even a little good and judging them favorably you actually transform them into a state of being meritorious. (Stay away from abusive people but try and search for the good in everyone. Even finding the good points about them in your thoughts can bring about change, if not in them, then at least in you.)

8. A person also needs to find in themself a little bit of good. Because no matter how low a person is, how can it be that they didn’t do one good thing in their entire life? (Think about the good points you have–these are good deeds you done, kindnesses to others, taking care of yourself, too. These are the moments where you are caring, loving, and also the moments where you do the right thing, even if the right thing is hard to do.)

9. When a person truly and deeply believes that everything that happens to them is for the best, this is a taste of the Garden of Eden on Earth. (Reflect on your life, see how even the struggles brought you to where you are today.)
