plants herbs

Are you a fan of natural healing? Do you like using herbs and plants as part of your wellness routine? If the answer is yes, you might like this post. That’s because I’ve listed five things from Mother Nature that some believe benefit health.

Most all of these can be purchased (in some form) from your local grocery store. Online retailers, such as Amazon, also sell these herbs and plants – most commonly in the form of tea. Check it out:

1. Elderberry

A small shrub, elderberry’s flowers and juice have many healing properties. Elderberry is useful against upper respiratory conditions and can also fight against sinus infections.

Research has indicated that elderberry is especially valuable for relieving symptoms of the flu.

Elderberry also contains large amounts of an antioxidant called anthocyanin, which helps protect from disease.

2. Astragalus

The root of this Asian herb has a long history in traditional Chinese medicine. Astragalus can be used as a general boost to the immune system, since the plant may be able to increase production of immune cells.

Three is some evidence to suggest that astragalus can boost liver and heart function, and might even reduce the chances of cancer.

3. Andrographis

Andrographis is another herb used in traditional Chinese medicine. The herb is most effective against colds, allergies, and the flu; traditionally andrographis has also been used for stomach illnesses and other conditions.

Modern studies have shown that andrographis can reduce fever among cold patients and shorten the duration and severity of flu symptoms.

4. Garlic

Garlic has long been used for a wide variety of health purposes. More recently, garlic has been discovered to decrease levels of harmful cholesterol while raising those of beneficial cholesterol, and to reduce blood pressure.

Both of these effects will help protect from heart disease. Consuming garlic can also help prevent colds.

5. Echinacea

The entire echinacea plant can be used for medicinal purposes. The herb is most useful for reducing inflammation. These anti-inflammatory properties make echinacea especially effective at relieving the symptoms of upper respiratory conditions.

Some research has also pointed towards echinacea supporting the immune system and fighting against infections.

Natural, medical herbs are a valuable way to better your life — try any of the five described above to aid your health and wellbeing.
