I may be too late on posting a comment.. but.. here goes ..i love reading about narcissism from Kim..i was married 20 yrs to one and parental narcissism/ borderline personality disorder affected me deeply. I wish i could look at the optimism referred to as an option but I’m 66 and it has been so long that i haven’t figured out how to love myself or be optimistic even with yrs of therapy.. is there any hope for me?

Hi there. Well, I’m 72 and feel somewhat like you do. Never give up in my motto. There are so many ways to change, therapies, etc. That we have no excuse. I have to tell myself such things just to keep myself going. Alanon has helped me A Lot, and given me Many Tools that are very useful. It’s not just for those affected by Alcoholism (tho they have to keep the literature etc. with that as the main ‘issue, or it will get too distilled, if that make sense). Many in the rooms speak of narcissistic partens, partners, etc. there are many isms that are very much like alcoholism, even raging, etc.) It’s a spirtual program (Not religious), because as you wrote! these traits feel So Ingrained, it seems impossible to change. Most who come into the rooms do not do so because they are deliriously happy. Many are on their knees, desperate for relief. And Many find it in Alanon. It is a structure for living life, that at this point in the World, Everyone could probably use it. I wish you the best. I’m going to choose notify me for followup comments, so that if you get this and respond, I will reply. Thank You.
