    I just left my abuser and I’m still blaming myself and feeling sorry for him. I know it’s ridiculous but it’s true. I’m going to try to practice loving myself and giving myself the compassion I feel for him.

    These are excellent suggestions! I would add that it isn’t necessary to have a “bad” childhood to indulge in self-blame as an adult. I had a childhood surrounded by supportive family, and still I struggle with perfectionism and self-blame.

    All three strategies powerfully fail me, and make the “inner critic” even stronger (which is what years of therapy also did).
    Now what? What’s left?
