Feel Your Feelings. They Will Set You Free!

Today’s guest post, “Feel Your Feelings. They Will Set You Free!” was written by Jennifer Huggins, Psy.D, a psychologist specializing in the mind-body connection. Dr. Huggins explains the benefits of actually feeling our difficult feelings (not just pretending to be happy all the time) and helps us understand how suppressed feelings can show up in our bodies as pain and chronic health problems.

What if you don’t have feelings you can connect with? The only feelings I can actually ‘feel’ are anger and fear. I know I love my children and grandchildren but there is no ‘warm fuzzy’ feeling when I think about them. the problem (I believe) is that the physical, emotional and sexual abuse started at a very young age that I’ve discovered I “blackout”. Not sure how to explain but my husband once said something so awful to me that I turned away and ??? I don’t remember anything after that and I can’t tell when I returned to the present. I’ve seen psychologist for this; the last one told me (as I went deeper into the hurts I could remember) that she thought I was crazy (duh). No one has been able to unlock the blackout door. Suggestions?
