Mr Potato Head

Why Do I Have So Much Inner Hate, Self-Loathing and Low Self-Esteem?

Mr. Potato Head: Why Do I Have So Much Inner Hate?
In therapy this week, we broached the subject of my self-loathing.  Although it's not the correct terminology since the term "self-hatred" or "self-loathing" is more often refereed to by psychologists and psychiatrists who would usually describe people who hate themselves as "persons with low self-esteem."

Self-hatred and shame is a large factor in my mental health diagnosis. One I've struggled with as long as I can remember.  It's only the second time, during any type of therapy, that I'm focusing on it with a view to changing my own misperception.  My Autophobia, is a self-fear that I may one day like myself!  I'm happy to say that I've been able to work through a lot of the self-loathing but that is a day-to-day fight.

"It is better to make goals you CAN'T reach than NOT to make any goal at all! At least you'll be thinking of doing something, and that is ALWAYS better then doing nothing all. Now, that is smart goal setting."

Midnight Madness: Six Quotes of Chato B. Stewart’s Words Of The Wisdomless

Words Of The Wisdomless: Keep Moving
"Do not take love for granted, no matter how much we want to hate ourselves, or no matter how much we want to give up... There is always someone out there that will love you... For me, they love for me to leave."

-*-
Words Of the Wisdomless: A Penny for your Thought
On days that are gloomy and full of uncertainties, I find what works best is to get 100 pennies and drop them around me. This way while I work through problems, I can keep my Cents about me.

Exposed Massive Medicare Fraud Operation In Miami

A Medicare Fraud Operation was exposed in Miami.  U.S. authorities touted the case as "the largest Medicare fraud scheme ever perpetrated by a single criminal enterprise.''

The Associated Press / ABC News: "The alleged scam is 'unlike anything we've seen before in terms of the nature and size of the scheme,' said Assistant Attorney General Lanny Breuer. … Authorities are still investigating whether the company actually withheld medication from patients or just doctored the charts. The therapy was supposed to be intensive counseling for patients suffering acute mental illness and are on the verge of hospitalization, but federal officials said ATC didn't give any counseling. Instead, patients were bused in and sat in rooms watching TV and playing games, authorities said" (Kennedy, 10/21)

MIAMI (AP) — Authorities are charging the nation's largest chain of community mental health centers with Medicare fraud. They say the company preyed on patients with severe dementia to bill $200 million for services that it never delivered. Prosecutors say American Therapeutic and its sister companies faked charts. And they say the companies paid the owners of assisted living facilities to bring patients to mental health centers for therapy sessions that were never held.

Are You Between A Rock and a Hard Place?

In April 29, 2002 the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental Health was established by George W. Bush.  Highlighting this fact about stigma:
"Stigma leads to isolation, and discourages people from seeking the treatment they need. Political leaders, health care professionals, and all Americans must understand and send this message: Mental disability is not a scandal; it is an illness. And like physical illness, it is treatable, especially when treatment comes early."
The very next year Michael F. Hogan, Ph.D. the Chairman, President’s New Freedom Commission on Mental Health submitted the findings with the

Universal Truth

A Universal Truth: Don’t Run With Humans

What have I told you!  Do you want to poke your eye out?

A Universal Truth: Don't Run With Humans
A Universal Truth? The only time I've ever heard that term was during all my NAMI mentor training.  Years ago, at the Peer to Peer, C.A.R.E. and Family programs and then again in the Connections training.  It got me thinking one day about other Universal Truths. That's why I drew the above cartoon about this Universal Truth... NO running with scissors...(an important Universal Truth, in my household, as a Father of Four!)  What Universal Truths have "positively" impacted your life or family?
