Social Distancing is No Fun Without Inner Circle Of Friends

DBSA Chato Reaches out to his inner circle of friends - by Chato Stewart - P

We need socialization… We really do! Isolation is not healthy for anyone living with a mental health diagnosis.  I don’t need a study or a doctor to tell me isolation is bad.  To me, it is common knowledge not to isolate. I have experienced it first hand often! I don’t recommend isolation at all.  BUT, isn’t ‘Social Distancing’…just a milder form of isolation?

We have been asked and even ordered to be Social Distanced.  What can we do if we need to self-quarantine and keep Social Distancing for a while?

One way people keep social beyond the text, social media, and waving out their window:  Many are doing virtual socialization via video streaming services.  Like Facebook live, Facetime, or Skype or any number of services.

I have been going to my conversation meetings this past week via a service and it has been a highlight of my day just seeing my friends and loved ones.  Maybe, this is something you can try if you’re not already doing it. Video conferencing or video chatting is nothing new and many are already doing it.

If you’re not on the bandwagon yet, maybe you can try it today.  Below is a few apps that might help you video chat and get that well-needed socialization and show everyone your pet. (For some reason whenever there is a lull in the conversation, someone always holds up their pet. The other day someone in my group had a rooster on their head…LOL:))

Laughter is still good medicine on and offline.

Check out some alternatives to facetime or skype for video calls.
