Top 5 Tips: How to Effectively Deal With Difficult People

Yeah, some know how to clear a room with their presence. They enter a room and people flee.  Sadly, perhaps, due to illness or for other reasons…other than just being a jerk, some of us are rather difficult to be around. It’s not tip-toeing through the tulips, but tiptoeing on the glass or on the eggshells…when we encounter such prickly people.

Why are some so NOT open to ‘any’ agreement?! Nothing seems to please. The totally disagreeable types are challenging for the more agreeable kind of folks, huh?!

Top 5 Tips: (How to Effectively Deal With Difficult People (DP))

…for tiptoeing on glass without getting too cut up.

  1. Yes ’em to death…(Yes, yes, yes, yup, yup, yup, YES, Yes…)…You know, just ‘yes’ them enough to shut them up…for a minute or two…might do the trick…
  2. Get ’em a cup of coffee or tea. If they are busy drinking a favorite morning beverage, their lips are occupied with not aggravating you about a trivial matter first thing. (Diversion tactics – for morning DP.)
  3. Keep your words short and sweet, and succinct so as not to be misinterpreted. (‘Succinct’ – a fun word.)
  4. Employ wise-ancient-advice: “an answer when mild turns away rage.” Be the mild/calm one when dealing with a storm-of-a-person.  (And smile – always smile.)
  5. Be generous with your forgiveness. Hey! we all have a bad day, and we all can be difficult (at certain times). Sooner or later someone will be smiling at you.

I know these tips work. How do I know? My wife uses ’em on me…and on my difficult days all the time!
