Mental Thoughts: Is Kayaking A Way To Lose Weight #NHBPM

kayaking good way to lose weight
Mental thought: kayaking good way to lose weight???

It’s Day 20 and only 10 days left of the Month long blog party for National Health Blog Post Month. I really hope you have been enjoying my Mental Health Humor graphic memoir of Family Stew cartoons.

(#NHBPM 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th,6th,7th, 8th, 9th, 10, 11th, 12th,13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th)

Today’s Prompt: – “I Still Remember…” Has me in my kayak, in what is a real life look of my first few attempts at taking the new toy out on the water. I still remember me thinking that kayaking was a good way to lose weight. I would go just about every week-end, go fishing and/or take the kids out and get out of the house. A good goal for someone like me (see: My Agoraphobia).  A big thing I would think about is: what would happen if I flipped the Kayak?  Well, I did flip it, 3 times but I was smart, I was in 4 feet of water.  🙂

Is Kayaking A Good Way To Lose Weight?

You know, according to the American Council on Exercise, “a 125 lb person burns about 283 calories per hour while kayaking.” Based on those numbers, with me at  400 lbs, I should be able to burn a whopping 910 calories in an hour. That might seem logical with me being heavier, but each time I’ve gone out, I’ve burned about 400 calories in about 2 hours.

Is kayaking my way to “lose weight,” not really, but it gets me outside. Does it give me peace of mind? Sure, when the wind is not blowing me out to sea or someone is not speeding toward me in their 40′ yacht in a no wake zone.
