I got a comment recently from a “Saginaw Supporter” referring to the Michigan town of Saginaw. The police department made world-wide news a few weeks back when the shooting death of Mr. Milton Hill was captured on video and posted on Youtube. This video was shown on T.V. while I was watching the news. While it’s true I did not have ALL the FACTS, the facts I did have were more than enough to trigger an emotional rage, which I channeled into the cartoon below and posted the night I saw the video at: RIP Milton Hill: Police Shoot 46 Times, Killing Mentally Ill Man. The post was viewed 3706 times and tweeted to 57 twitter accounts and shared on Facebook. If I was a numbers guy, I’d say between page visits, Facebook shares and other social media, maybe about 20k to 30k people could have seen the cartoon. That’s a low number, too.

Here’s the comment from “Saginaw Supporter” about the cartoon saying:

You need to get some of your story elements correct, though that does not make this any more tragic.
There were 46 shots fired by the police, he was hit 11 times and 1 of the wounds was fatal.
According to the report and witnesses Mr. Hall was threatening police with a knife and refused to put the knife down and made a move towards officers not shown in the video which seems to have caused the sudden outburst of shots.
While Mr. Hall had known mental issues, he also had a long history of aggressive and threatening actions towards others.
The police were not using him for target practice as you imply in this ‘cartoon’. It was a tragedy but not an intentful action. How sadly judgmental of you to draw something like this without getting more information! Shame on you.

SHAME Is The Loss of Life Needlessly

Here is what I would like to say about this matter and where the shame really should be:

It was the 46 shots that was the final judgement, if what you’re telling me is correct. If a ROW of 5 police officers fired 46 bullets from their GUNS at Mr. MILTON HILL (THE DEAD VICTIM) from around 15 to 20 feet away, and only 11 hit him with ONE kill shot, then YES, it was nothing more than TARGET practice on a man in CRISIS! If they had “correct” CIT (Crisis Intervention Training)– training other than firing a gun— perhaps, this tragedy might not of played out like this.

The only shame here is that Milton Hill is dead! You said: “You need to get some of your story elements correct, though that does not make this any more tragic.”

Now I ask you, what would you have to say if that was your loved one they gunned down? (Would that make it more tragic?) This is not the first time something like the Killing OF MR. MILTON HILL HAS HAPPENED! IT’S JUST THE FACT THAT IT WAS CAUGHT ON VIDEO that the world got to see how some police (NOT ALL) handle a person in a mental crisis.

If you were in a mental crisis, would you like to be shot 46 times because you had a knife ,or would you rather have a trained officer at the scene who knew how to deal with people in a mental crisis (and not just know how to pull a trigger)?!
