DBSA Positive Six Campaign JULY – Give It a Try Challenge

DBSA be a tourist in your own city Challenge - by Chato Stewart - Positive Six Campaign sm As you know, May 2012 was Mental Health Awareness Month and the DBSA kicked off its six-month long project to help peers make a few changes. The program is called: “Positive Six Campaign!”

I was privileged to be commissioned to draw a cartoon for each of the the +6 campaign months. I chose to use my other cartoon series: The Family Stew (where I draw about me personally and my family as we live with the ups and downs of Bipolar Disorder among other issues.).

In May, I had an opportunity to interview the key lead person for the DBSA “Positive Six Campaign” challenge. The idea or challenge for May was to “share a meal.” In my cartoon, I did share a meal with my doctor in his office… I just did not know he didn’t like to BBQ. Then June’s challenge was to eliminate negative self-talk and I drew how I would bump him off. In the July cartoon, we become “a tourist in your own city.”

JULY: Give It a Try Challenge

Try three (+3) new things this month that you’ve been hesitant to in the past…try new types of food, be a tourist in your own city, try out a new hobby, etc. You’ll be proud you did and hopefully have some fun!
