Wine Glass: Depression Glass

Is Depression Glass Really a type of Therapy?

If you know what Depression glass is…then you should get this cartoon joke. Or if you’re like me and had no clue what it is… then getting the above cartoon will take a little learning. Don’t worry, I only learned about Depression glass this week when I found a book at the library titled: “Depression Glass and It’s Many Powers.

My very first thought, when reading the title, was the above cartoon.  Still, I picked up the book thinking it was some type of “new” therapy or “ancient” healing glass or something like that. Intriguing.

Boy-Oh-boy was I wrong. I had to look it up.  It turns out (this according to Wikipedia):  Depression glass is clear or colored translucent glassware that was distributed free, or at low cost, in the United States around the time of the Great Depression.”  (That would explain all the glassware set images in the book!) Does the type of glassware really matter? (What’s inside really does.) Depending on what you drink, the glass can affect you; hurt or heal you; uplift or depress you! (Don’t choose the wrong glass, the one filled with poison…figurative or otherwise!)

Now, you should be able to get the gag joke.Whether you think it’s funny or not, will depend on your taste. Hey, all I can do is draw the stuff, people!  You have to do all the laughing. (And if you did indeed laugh or smile…Depression Glass IS Powerful.)
