DBSA – I'm In The Comedy Show!!!

mental health cartoonist for psych-central: chato b stewart

Still here in Chicago “celebrating” the Depression Bipolar Support Alliance’s 25th year of peer support.  It’s the last night of  the conference.  I have so much information.  I’ve gone to so many lectures, breakout sessions and Key Note addresses –  my brain is about to melt!

Last night, I went down to watch the David Granirer rehearsal for Stand-Up for mental health comedy night.  Saw about 9 people getting  ready for tonight’s performance.  I wanted to participate but, the class was full.  So, I asked if I could just watch.  While I sat there,  I started to write a few jokes down.  Then as the rehearsal was ending, I asked Dave if I could do a set. For the first time ever, I got up behind the mic.  My first 4 jokes bombed but the last 5 worked!   To my surprise, David offered me a chance to do a set in tonight’s show… I will be doing about a 3 minute set to a crowed of about 250… Cool!

I’ll let you know how I did… I just hope my set doesn’t totally bomb!!!  I only have a day to write the jokes and they are not my best.  They are just what I have… DOH!
