It’s the challenge we have grown used to from pleasing or proving wrong our cognitive dissonance process of thinking. I saw my Mom put men on a pedestal and brag about what men said about her. She was always behaving in a very emotionally immature way. She had double standards for women as men where always forgiven because in her mind “men really do love and adore me” despite their disrespectful behavior. Women were somehow wicked and sinful and she could always find something hateful to say about any woman. She would really cut down any woman for any reason but any man who would give her attention was as a saint.
I try to now celebrate and embrace my femininity instead of down playing my strengths. She made me ashamed of being a woman and she was very jealous of me and talked horribly behind my back. I did marry a wonderful man and we have been married for 35 years. She was a victim of her mother’s beliefs and values. I do not speak to her and I gave up trying to
please her so I now focus on myself and my personal growth.

Wow, Holly- what a wonderful testimony to how you escaped this trap. Kudos to you and congratulations on your long and happy union.
