The Meaning Of Life

“Only love, Can make it rain, The way the beach is kissed by the sea” Pete Townshend

Perhaps it is the greatest question that man can ask. What is the meaning of life? Why am I here on planet Earth?

Life photoWithout understanding one’s purpose on Earth life is hollow and empty. This is readily evidenced by America’s fixation with distractions. Drugs and alcohol abound. Sports, movies, theatre, the television are fixated on by some. While some of these things can be beneficial in their right proportion people take things to the extreme. I had a friend as a youth who could recite all the baseball players and their statistics. Meanwhile, he neglected his scholastic studies.

The cruel treatment of others is a sure sign that you don’t understand your purpose on planet Earth. Basically, if you do something or support something done to others that you wouldn’t be happy to be done to yourself then you are missing something important and fundamental. All those pundits of war or those who turn a blind eye to the suffering of others are of course guilty. I don’t think anybody would be happy with a drone shooting a missile into their household destroying it in fiery destruction. Yet when it is expressed in the lie of ‘killing terrorists’ some sit back and applaud.

I want to present to you the concept of the spiral. People say that things go in circles. That is empires rise only to eventually fall. These people say that nothing really changes but rather we go on to repeat the same mistakes. This view of life does not perceive the spiritual aspect of life. Picture the DNA molecule. If you look at it from above it is indeed a circle. However, if you look at it sideways a third dimension is apparent. In the same way, life is taking us somewhere.

So what is happening on Earth? God is calling  His people and creating His church or temple. I could quote a lot of scriptures to validate my point but some might find that obnoxious.

So since time began God was choosing his people. Now here is the key thing about this, that God uses his own criteria to decide who He doesn’t use human standards. Basically, man looks on the outside of a person while God looks on the inside. Furthermore, God with His wisdom can see how a person can grow and develop. So that gives us two important aspects of a child of God. They will appear from obscurity and they will develop into something wonderful.

Of course, that this is totally contradictory to the majority of people who follow religion. Even if we narrowed down religion to ‘Christianity’ this still doesn’t apply. But, God always uses a handful to accomplish the task that is at hand. God chooses the weak to confound the strong. In the famous story of David and Goliath, we see the contrasts. On the one hand, David was a young shepherd boy perhaps a teenager. The giant Goliath was a hardened soldier trained in war who had killed many. And so the two were pitted against one another in a life and death struggle. Was there some grand epic battle like we see in the movies when the good guy faces the bad guy for the final showdown? No, not at all. Instead, David slew the giant with a single blow from a stone from his sling. The whole contest probably didn’t take a minute to do.

Another important thing to note is that the Puritan idea of health and wealth is a lie. The idea is that if one has favor with God that they will have healthy lives and they will be financially well off. Though God does bless people materially this statement is an outright lie. Jesus never possessed great material possessions, but rather lived during his ministry as a homeless man sleeping in gardens and taking financial support from others.

You will know a child of God as they will impact your life in a real and substantial way. A child of God will be different from the rest of the world. Love for others in the principal sign. The proof is in the living. And please when the man on the television asks you to call for prayers and then says they accept all major credit cards, turn off the television.
