The Spiritual Solution

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” God

On planet Earth, there exist two worlds a spiritual one and a physical one. They are opposites that pull people in opposite directions.

Spiritual photoHaving a mental illness is a humbling experience. Society told me that I was insane to the point where I had to be involuntarily removed by force. I didn’t go willingly in a psychiatric hospital. When I was presented the thought that I was insane I began to question everything about life. I questioned religion, God, society, the United States, myself, the list goes on. Through the years of recovery, I came to many unsettling conclusions.

Money is a piece of paper or at best a coin of metal. The intrinsic value of the paper is worthless. Even farther away are digits on a computer. Yet for the sake of profits, men will wage wars and destroy the nature of planet Earth. As we speak tar sands in Canada is devastating the environment. The Amazon jungle is being clear-cut. All this for the sake of money. Money only has value because we put meaning behind the symbol. If you were stranded on a deserted island you would soon find out how much money was worth.

Other things in life only have meaning because we put meaning on them. A double yellow line on the road for example or the colors on a stoplight. There is nothing within those things that possess power. But rather because of an agreement we accept them. But if there comes a time of emergency the conventions will be violated. An ambulance can pass through a red light as can somebody who disregards the law.

How we apply what we see is fundamental in how we understand it. If you look at a fellow human being, what do you see? This question gets to the heart of the matter.

As a Christian and a spiritual creature, I see a creation of God. I see an individual worthy of respect and love. I see a precious soul. In fact, I am commanded to treat that person as I would treat Jesus Christ. I am to consider another human being’s welfare even above my own. This is through my spiritual eyes.

Now, most people don’t see things that way. First of all the waters get convoluted with things that don’t matter. Race, religion, sex, nationality, skin color, clothes, ethnicity, profession, wealth, all come into interpretation through carnal eyes. I am not saying these things aren’t important, as they are. What I am saying is that these attributes do not negate a person’s humanity and thus how we feel about them. But you know the world. These things cause division and hatred and are used as excuses to deploy exploitation.

A tree is known by its fruits. Death, destruction, poverty, greed, materialism, perversion, the list of ailments go on. So if I look at the United States and I witness drug use, high prison rates, endless war, poverty, and other things, I know something is wrong. In all fairness, there are a lot of people who are trying to help other people. The good, righteous people in the United States are in fact what preserves this nation from total destruction.

It comes down to this basic question, how do you treat others? Not your family, or even those that share your beliefs and qualities. But how do you treat the stranger and the outcast? How do you treat your enemy?

You see, spirituality is all about love. Love, in turn, is about how we treat others. Here is the litmus test, would you wanted to be treated in the same exact way you are treating others. Be careful before you answer, do you really know how you are living?

War is the greatest evil mankind has ever created, especially the way Europeans wage it. All wars have roots in economics. Today the United States is waging ‘endless’ war causing the suffering of millions. We are killing innocents, destroying nations, and creating refugees. On the side of the United States, soldiers are getting wounded physically and mentally, families are torn apart.

Life is determined by the choices we make. I chose love over hatred, that is the spiritual path. Any other is carnal and by definition evil.

As always I’d like to present a book for sale. So if you enjoyed this article you would enjoy my book “Letting It Out”
