it seems you missed the main point of the article….let me reiterate THEY DID NOT find that TV or screen time was damaging they simply found that children with higher screen time were more likely that other children to experience anxiety and depression….

IN FACT it provided insight into the possibility that children with predisposition to anxiety and depression simply PREFERRED computer and TV related activities compared to other children there was NO finding of cause and effect AT ALL!

Thanks for offering that different viewpoint. However, it does seem from the tone of your comment that you are shouting at me. I assure you that it’s not necessary to do that to get my attention.

I’m glad to hear other interpretations of scientific reports. And perhaps I did miss some of the point of the article, or just interpreted it differently from you – I’ll take another look at it. And whether excessive TV and computer time is specifically harmful or not, it’s interesting to see what does and doesn’t seem to affect the outcome of this activity.

Again, thanks for sharing your opinion.

When I click on the link to the article, it doesn’t work, but I read something similar about this recently. Even if it can be debated if children with depression and related issues are drawn to the computer and tv or that excessive computer/tv time can contribute to depression, either way it’s something to be aware of as a parent. Computers in particular can be so isolating, especially when a child feels as if they are being very social because they use Facebook and other tools. It doesn’t replace real time, in person socializing.

I’m so sorry about the link. I redid it just now and it appears to be working again. Thanks so much for mentioning that.

And thanks for adding your perspective about this article. I do agree that TV and computer time, no matter what the reason, can take away from human person-to-person time.
