Hello, and happy late St Patrick’s Day. If you are into sports at all, you also may know this is the first day of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. The Big Dance. The Cinderella Teams. The Upsets. This is good stuff.
Easy Fun For All Ages In The Family
This is particularly good stuff because I taught my two oldest girls how to fill out a bracket today. It is an annual ritual fraught with risk, excitement, and an unnatural amount of simultaneous games on TV. Why did I do it? Because it’s fun and pretty easy for beginners. Mostly, it has come down to coin flips and mascot comparisons.
My husband hasn’t always done a bracket, but because the girls filled one out, he has too. Instead of just being something I do every year, it’s quickly spread to being a fun family competition. It’s especially good because of our exciting prize – a half-finished box of candy and thirty cents we found around the house!
Spark The Fun In Your Family
This is just the kind of spark you need sometimes in your family. Something silly and surprising that can keep you all connected, through the ups and downs of your day. In our household, I’ll say this is a welcome breath of spring air. We’ve had some rough news and a lot to adjust to in the summer. Instead of brooding, a frivolous on-going competition couldn’t have come at a better time.
And even if things are going well, sometimes you really just need to make things light. After all, that’s probably why you created a family in the first place, right? To create and enjoy more love, to pass things on, to make great family memories for yourselves.
Maybe the Big Dance is not your cup of tea. Visit the soccer games at the park near your house during the summer. Gather kids in your neighborhood to play ball in your back yard. Go to some local summertime music festivals or theatre shows. Whatever you like best, make a fun tradition out of it.
Well, it’s time for me to get back to my bracket. The girls will be up early checking tonight’s winners before they have breakfast.
