Well when your entire life experience is one of failure, abandonment, and undiagnosed ADHD w/ depression until adulthood, it seems impossible to fantasize about change. All I do is try to survive, there is no thrive in my life anymore. I don’t see any chance of change coming to my self-perception. I am a pessimist, negative ruminator, depressive middle aged man, alone now after being divorced. Nothing amount of Pollyana thinking is going to change those facts.

You know, sometimes surviving is all that we can do. Surviving during very stressful times is a coping skill in itself. Thanks for pointing that out.It sounds like you have had a difficult time. Struggling with undiagnosed ADHD would be hard. And when you are depressed it usually feels like nothing can ever feel better. I hope you are talking with a therapist you respect who can help.
