I find that there is so much overlap between the traits for BPD and NPD that I find it more helpful to talk about cluster B traits. In my opinion, the overwhelming trait for these people is that they are utterly self absorbed. They work so hard on their false self that they are super charming, people that only know them superficially would never believe the pain this charming person is capable of inflicting. They are way too self absorbed to be in a loving, reciprocal adult relationship or to be a parent. My favourite description of them is of an emotionally imatire child that spends most of their life trying to act like an adult.

A very interesting Article Dr. Ramani Durvasula. You stated that you are the daughter of Indian immigrants, and as a result also bring an exquisite understanding of how narcissism gets incentivized in cultures.
How exactly is Narcissism and Bipolar Disorder incentivized in the Indian Caste Culture as it relates to the caste system that may still excise presently.Jati often resemble clans/ethnicities in other parts of the world. It is not really easy to break the ethnicities. Given the deep inroads that caste system has made into culture, it is not going away anytime soon.
