Pesticides and depression: The great unknown

Several years ago I was a member of a team of journalists who wrote two award-winning series on migrant farm workers in Florida. I focused on working conditions, especially in the fields. I learned a lot about the pesticides, fungicides and herbicides sprayed on our food and the people who harvest that food.

Sleep, the other medicine for my depression

I don't want to hurt myself. I don't want a drink or drug. I just want to sleep.

Since my diagnosis and last major depression 8 years ago, sleep has become a barometer for my quality of life. So, when my alarm went off this morning and my first thought was, "In 24 hours you will still be asleep," (Friday is the start of a 3-day weekend for me) I realized how tired I really am.
