    A couple of years ago, my aunt and I started a “joke” that helps us change the subject at the dinner table. One of us will comment, “I don’t like the smell of buttermilk” for when things are becoming too stressful. The other one picks up on this and helps change the subject or calm the atmosphere. Much of the time, the cause is my mom and brother arguing or my mom arguing with someone that she can get to bite. Changing topics helps us keep the focus on the holidays.
