    Bravo Rachel!!
    Simply expressed, accessible, therefore powerful. This is the basis of dialectical thinking, a thinking pattern we are not good at as our culture tends to separate and categorise.

      Jean, you’re right – it can seem easier to “organize” issues into entirely one way or another, but this often works to our detriment.

    I related to much of what you said and realize I fall victim to the “always/never” type statements…which I acknowledge is harmful! The title reads “How To Stop Black & White Thinking” but I don’t think I read the “how to” part. Is there further reading on this?

      Hi Christine – Thanks for your question. As stated in the post, ‘Extreme terms such as “always”, “never”, and “either-or” can be substituted by “frequently”, “at times”, or “seldom”’. This is just a start, but it can be a powerful step. Many of the other examples of dialectical thinking listed can be helpful remedies to “always/never” thinking.
