Why Write A Book And How To Do It

Joanna Penn

“Books can make us think and take us out of our lives.”

Joanna Penn notes:

“You know, life is hectic, life is crazy we all get bogged down in the day job and chores, in life in general.

“A good fiction story is basically entertainment that can make us think and take us out of our lives.”

Of course, non-fiction writing can also entertain and help readers – and the author – think and become more aware. That is one of the overarching motivations for me writing my own books.

Actor and author Jamie Lee Curtis talks about writing children’s books that “address core childhood subjects and life lessons in a playful, accessible way,” as her Amazon.com bio notes.

Curtis says she is “tremendously proud of my books. They are the closest thing to who I am as a human being. It is my sensibility. It is how I look at the world.”

From my article: Jamie Lee Curtis: Writing Is More Creatively Satisfying.

Author Chandler Bolt, founder of Self-Publishing School, writes:

“There’s this ridiculous misconception out there that ‘books are dead’ and that nobody reads them any more.

Chandler Bolt-from-video“Everyone’s talking about how video and audio are ‘in,’ so you should start a podcast or your own YouTube show.

“This is crazy! Books aren’t dead. They’ve been around for hundreds of years, and they aren’t going anywhere any time soon.

“There is one massive change that’s happening though … everything is going digital.

“Right now there are almost 3 billion mobile devices worldwide, 3 billion internet-connected laptop computers, and approximately 2 billion internet-connected tablets — iPads, Android, Kindle devices — and those devices are outselling computers right now.

“Companies like Google, Apple, and Amazon are monetizing these devices by selling movies, music, apps, and e-books.”
