As I always say, there’s no instruction book for how to have DID, and it sounds like your therapist gets that. You are fortunate to have him I think.

While everyone is different, my general sense is that personalities won’t give a person more than they think they can handle. If one goes with the idea that their function was to be protective, it’s probably understandable if they see things that way.

When it comes to T…one thing you can say about tormenter-types is that they often have a lot of strength and energy! Hopefully the day will come when they can use that energy in supportive and productive, and protective ways, rather than ways which encourage doubt and disruption.

The idea that they feel OK about sharing their thoughts and concerns with you, that sounds awfully hopeful to me. Again, if they believe you are truly ready and able, and they know their concerns have been heard, that may be when integration begins to take place.

Bob, thank you for your insights into DID, they are all helpful. I had never heard of tormentor-type but that does sound like a good label for T. I’ve had more harmony with everyone recently so I’m hoping that means we are moving towards integration.
