Medications For Mood Disorders


In this article, I will describe specific medications that are used to treat Mood Disorders.  They include Abilify, Adapin, in addition to Anafranil.  The type of these medications, the purpose of these medications, and the side effects of these medications will be listed in this article.


According to, the first medication used to treat symptoms associated with Mood Disorders is called Abilify.  Abilify is an antipsychotic medication.  In addition to treating Mood Disorders, Abilify can also be used to treat autism in children.  It is used to treat irritablity, mood swings, aggressive behavior, and self-injury related to autism.  Abilify is effective because it changes certain chemicals in the brain also known as neurotransmitters.

Side Effects Of Abilify

It is also worth noting what the side effects of Abilify are as well.  According to, Abilify may cause changes in weight such as weight gain, drooling, blurred vision, tiredness, lightheadness, being dizzy, as well as insomnia.


In addition to Abilify, according to, the second medication used to treat Mood Disorders is Adapin.  Adapin is an antidepressant.  According to, Adapin can be used to treat anxiety disorders, insomnia, in addition to pruritus.  Like Abilify, it works by changing neurotransmitters in the brain.

Side Effects Of Adapin

In addition to mentioning how Adapin works, it is also worth mentioning the side effects of Adapin.  According to, the side effects of Adapin include dry mouth, mouth sores, taste problems, drowsiness, nausea, changes in vision, breast swelling in either men or women, in addition to decreased sex drive.


According to, the third type of medication for Mood Disorders is Anafranil.  Anafranil is a antidepressant.  According to, Anafranil helps individuals with depression by restoring two chemicals in the brain.  The two chemicals are serotonin and norephinephrine.  Anafranil is also used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

Side Effects Of Anafranil

The side effects of Anafranil will also be mentioned.  According to, the side effects of Anafranil include drowsiness, dry mouth, constipation, nausea, dizziness, headaches, blurred vision, and weight gain.


To end this article, three specific types of medications have been mentioned.  They include Abilify, Adapin, as well as Anafranil.  Abilify is an antipsychotic medication.  In addition to Abilify, Adapin and Anafranil are antidepressant types of medications.  In addition to describing what types of medications these are, the purpose of these medications and the side effects of these medications have also been mentioned, as well.
