How To Prevent Insomnia With Major Depressive Disorder

Introduction

You may have heard of the term insomnia.  Insomnia is an inability to sleep.  It is a symptom of Major Depressive Disorder.  This article will explore ways for individuals with Major Depressive Disorder to sleep better at night.

Have A Set Time For Going To Bed At Night

To prevent insomnia during the night time with Major Depressive Disorder, it is essential to have a set time to go to bed at night.  This includes going to bed at the same time during the weekend as the week.  This will help prevent insomnia from developing.  Once you have a set time for going to sleep at night, you will notice that your body will become programmed to fall asleep at the same time each night and your depression will also decrease as well.

The Bed Is Only For Sleeping

In addition to having a set time for going to bed at night, it is also important to remember that the bed is only for sleeping.  If you read for instance on your bed, try reading at a desk.  When you read at your desk, your body will realize that it is time to be awake.  When you get into bed at night, your body will realize that it is time to go to bed.  This will also help prevent insomnia.

Set An Alarm Clock Each Night Before You Go To Bed

In addition to having a set time for going to bed at night and realizing that the bed is only for sleeping, it is also essential to set an alarm clock each night before you go to bed.  When you set an alarm clock at night, you get used to waking up at the same time every night.  This helps prevent insomnia.

Conclusion

This article has described several tips for individuals with Major Depressive Disorder, including having a set time for going to bed at night time, realizing that the bed is only for sleeping, as well as setting an alarm clock before going to bed at night, to help prevent insomnia and increase sleep.  Sleep is very important for individuals who have Major Depressive Disorder.  Consider trying these three practical tips to increase your level of sleep during the night time hours of the night.  It is also important to remember sleep is just as important during the weekend as it is during the week, perhaps even more important.
