Psych Central and Childhood Emotional Neglect: A Look Back and Goodbye

It happened last Friday. Suddenly, I received an email letting me know that Psychcentral, the host of my Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN) blog for six years, has been sold to Healthline.

What does this mean for PsychCentral? It’s not entirely clear at this point. But it seems that PsychCentral will stop adding new content for a few months and will revive in 2021 in a new form.

What does this mean for the Childhood Emotional Neglect Blog? It will be moving to my website,

A Look Back at the Childhood Emotional Neglect Blog on PsychCentral

Way back six years ago, Psych Central took a chance on me. I had just written my first book Running On Empty, about Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN) and I was looking for, in addition to the book, another way to bring this concept into the common mindset. I needed to reach both laypeople and mental health professionals – OK, I guess all people. My goal was to make Childhood Emotional Neglect a common household term.

Psych Central has indeed been instrumental in my reaching many hundreds of thousands (perhaps millions) of people. Since 2014, I have written 325 blog posts about Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN). It has been my incredible pleasure to share these 6 years with the great people of Psych Central and with you, my readers.

In fact, as I’ve written all these many posts, they have helped to shape me and my thinking about CEN. Psychcentral has shown me how my fingers-on-the-keyboard are connected to my heart as well as my head. Indeed, I have poured both into the posts!

Getting your feedback has been most valuable to me. In return for my efforts, I have been rewarded greatly by the thousands of comments I have received from you, my readers. As I have hopefully taught you and invited you to think, you have taught me back and required me to think.

Indeed, we have had an incredible thing going!

So today, I’d like to share with you some of the highlights of the Childhood Emotional Neglect Blog. I really hope you enjoy looking back with me.

There are so many more articles that I can’t look back at them all. Hopefully, Healthline may choose to move some of them over to their platform. If you’d rather not chance it, you can download them in PDF form now, before they potentially disappear.

In the meantime, don’t worry. When one door closes, another opens. I will not go away! I will continue to write articles about Childhood Emotional Neglect. Check my website frequently and I’ll keep you informed where to find them!

Many warm thanks to Dr. John Grohol, the founder of Psych Central for giving me this wonderful opportunity and for all the great people I’ve met and worked with at Psych Central over the years.

And, most importantly, to you, my reader, a million warm thanks for being my student and my teacher over the last six years as we have continued to explore and learn more together about the invisible force from childhood that can weigh on you for a lifetime: Childhood Emotional Neglect.
