Ease Your Quaran-tension by Connecting to Nature (No Matter Where You Are)

The beauty of nature is that you are effortlessly put in the present moment. Think about how it feels when you walk on the beach. As you look at the ocean, smell the salty air, and listen to the birds, you become deeply connected to your senses. This is what makes you feel truly alive.

Sadly, during this time of social distancing, enjoying the outdoors isn’t always realistic – especially if you live in an urban area. But the good news is there are ways to connect to the natural world, no matter where you live:

  1. Incorporate nature-themed design into your home

Research shows integrating elements of biophilic (nature-related) design into your living space can lower stress, boost creativity, increase focus and improve your overall health. This includes natural light, greenery, wooden furniture and other nature-themed décor.

If you’re feeling ambitious and have time for a home renovation project, paint the walls a neutral color: white, beige, light brown or sage green. You can also look for earth-toned textiles and area rugs to match.

Surrounding yourself with the colors of nature will help create a sense of inner peace. Your home is a reflection of you, so wouldn’t you want to create a space that’s tranquil, harmonious, and balanced?

  1. Bring on the indoor plants!

Studies show the mental and physical benefits of being surrounded by greenery. Adding plants in your home can be extremely therapeutic, helping reduce stress and enhance your well-being.

If you live in a city, you can create a garden window in your kitchen or bedroom, using an array of potted plants on the windowsill. And if you’re feeling really ambitious, you can create a plant curtain with hanging plants in front of your window.

Not only do plants beautify a space, they also detoxify by improving indoor air quality. In a study conducted by NASA, researchers found the spider plant and golden pothos were the most beneficial.

  1. Aromatherapy 

 One of the most effective ways to calm your mind and body is aromatherapy. Inhaling the essential oils from flowers, peels of plants, leaves, stems, bark, seeds, and roots, is scientifically proven to improve your overall health.

There are many different types of essential oils, each with a unique set of healing properties. By knowing the benefits of each you can find the one that best meets your needs. For example, lavender is well known for its ability to reduce anxiety. Jasmine, on the other hand, can boost your mood and energy.
