Can you imagine what life is like as the son of the Michael Jackson? Whatever you think about the late King of Pop, his children have to find their way in this world and, while they might have more financial security than most of us, there are challenges that they face that must be incredibly overwhelming at times.
Jackson’s oldest son, Prince, is just 20-years-old but he speaks with great confidence and maturity. He recently had a sit-down interview on the British TV show, This Morning, and, of course, he was asked if he’s planning to follow in his father’s footsteps.
He lightheartedly explained that he can’t sing or dance and that his attempts to do the moonwalk have been “embarrassing.” He made it abundantly clear that he won’t and couldn’t be part of some Jackson family revival – and that’s okay. In fact, it’s too bad that he has to explain that at all.
One can only imagine how often he’s asked questions like that. Along with the fact that many speculate over the possibility that Jackson is not his biological father, there’s just so much scrutiny that this young man, his sister, Paris, and brother, Prince II (also known as Blanket), has to face without having his famous father, who died in 2009, to protect and guide him.
When asked if it’s been hard to establish his own identity, he explained, “I do video production, and most of it has been music videos, so most people think that I’m a music producer, which I really am not in that field. But people really do get it confused a lot.”
While he may not be working in the music industry, one thing that he is trying to continue is his father’s philanthropic work. Jackson famously released the song “Heal the World” in 1992 and now Prince promotes the Heal Los Angeles charity which aims to fight child abuse and child hunger in the area. He explained that he wants to show people that you don’t have to be a pop star to make a difference – we all can do something to heal our world.
Despite everything that’s happened in his life, he seems to have a good head on his shoulders. So many people find relief from their own inner struggles and turmoil in helping others. It seems like he’s chosen to give back and that’s very admirable.
