Will Ben Affleck’s Stint in Rehab Change Divorce Outcome?
It’s been almost two years since Ben Affleck and his wife, Jennifer Garner, announced that they were getting divorced. Now, he has revealed that he has completed a treatment program for alcohol addiction and it has everyone wondering whether it means he will be moving back home to try again with his family.
Infidelity Rumors and Alienation
Just before their split was announced, rumors began swirling that Affleck had had an affair with their nanny. While he denied the allegations, Garner simply said that it was not a factor in her decision to leave him.
“We had been separated for months before I ever heard about the nanny,” she said. “She had nothing to do with our decision to divorce. She was not a part of the equation. Bad judgment? Yes,” she said. “It’s not great for your kids for [a nanny] to disappear from their lives. I have had to have conversations about the meaning of ‘scandal.’”
Wow. She certainly didn’t mince any words but there’s something really refreshing about the honesty. She was also brutally honest about feeling alienated in her marriage sometimes.
She explained: “He’s the love of my life. What am I going to do about that? He’s the most brilliant person in any room, the most charismatic, the most generous. He’s just a complicated guy. I always say, ‘When his sun shines on you, you feel it.’ But when the sun is shining elsewhere, it’s cold. He can cast quite a shadow.”
Stint in Rehab
On Facebook this week, Affleck made the following surprise announcement: “I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront. I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step. I’m lucky to have the love of my family and friends, including my co-parent, Jen, who has supported me and cared for our kids as I’ve done the work I set out to do. This was the first of many steps being taken towards a positive recovery.”
It’s important to note that he didn’t make reference to his “wife” but, rather, referred to Garner as his “co-parent.” The pair have remained close over the past couple years, even taking vacations with the kids together, but it sounds like Garner is keeping her boundaries tight which is understandable in this situation.
Now sober, Affleck will be better able to make better decisions and prioritize his life. He had taken on a lot of work for a while so maybe it’s time for a break so that he can focus on healing and improving his relationship with his kids
