To be clear, this post is not about whether plastic surgery is good or bad. There are many people who undergo procedures and it ends up being an overwhelmingly positive experience. Others, unfortunately, go under the knife for the wrong reasons and it can have a lifelong damaging effect.
In old Hollywood, there seemed to be more of a desire to be a “natural beauty” than there is today when so many stars have altered their appearance in some way. It definitely sends a message to fans but, also, to younger actors and actresses in the industry.
It sounds like Chloë Grace Moretz has some insight about this topic. The 19-year-old first gained notoriety as a preteen who had the foulest language in the 2010 movie, Kick-Ass, and has since gone on to star in major movies such as the remake of Carrie.
Things weren’t always so positive, she revealed since she considered having several plastic surgery procedures when she was just 16 years old. The actress told Elle magazine: “I wanted a boob job. I wanted the fat pad under my chin to be removed. I wanted a butt reduction, or whatever.”
Looking at Moretz, it’s hard to believe that she felt so much was wrong with her appearance. Fortunately, her mother was a voice of reason.
“My mom said, ‘Absolutely not, you’re not allowed to have plastic surgery,’ ” recalled Moretz. “Because of that, I found a lot of power within my insecurities. They’re what make me who I am now.”
She does admit that she works out seven days a week, eats clean, and wears hair extensions. She told the interviewer that she makes a huge effort to maintain her figure since no one is just “born” that way. She may have avoided the plastic surgery but it does sound like the pressure to look a certain way in Hollywood is still affecting her.
Hopefully, she realizes now that she’s beautiful without any enhancements and that she doesn’t have to have the “perfect body” to be happy or successful. She’s still young and many teenagers struggle with self-acceptance and body positivity so this could really be part of that normal phase.
Currently, Moretz is in a relationship with Brooklyn Beckham, the son of soccer star, David Beckham, and former Spice Girl, Victoria Beckham.
