Home Invasion Leaves Simon Cowell “Psychologically Damaged”
Anyone who watched American Idol will remember the tough version of Simon Cowell, the man who never seemed to want to settle down and who was vocal about not wanting children. When it was revealed that he had an affair with his best friend’s wife and that she was expecting his child, it was a huge shock but now, two years later, it seems that the unlikely couple are settling into domestic life. Unfortunately, a recent break-in has shaken their sense of security.
Recent Home Invasion
On December 4, 2015, Cowell, his now-girlfriend, Lauren Silverman, and their 21-month-old son, Eric, were asleep in the bedroom of his multimillion dollar mansion when a burglary occurred. The whole experience has been traumatic for the mogul who is haunted by what could have happened if things had gone badly.
Cowell explained:“One hundred per cent I’d like to meet the guy. If we found him I’d want to have a conversation with him. I don’t want to say too much right now because I am angry. As a dad you have to realise the psychological damage it does having someone you don’t know in your home three feet away from your little boy. What would have happened if he had woken up? I don’t want to feel too much like a victim here because this happens to thousands of people every bloody day.”
I’m sure that any family who has experienced a home invasion has had similarly chilling thoughts and questions about what could have been. Fortunately, the family avoided any physical harm.
Lapse in Security
Cowell explained that he has three dogs but that, during the theft, they failed to make a sound. He said: “They’re usually always barking but they chose not to at that time. Now I have dogs that bark.”
He also explained that the robbers were able to move around the property for 30 minutes while one of his security employees was in the toilet. He has since been fired. There was one worker, however, who earned high praise. Security guard, M’Bathonha Mendes, saw one of the thieves carrying a bag of loot and was able to tackle him and retrieve the items. Unfortunately, the criminal was able to get away.
Since the robbery coincides with two other high profile burglaries in the area (including Rita Ora and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini), police now fear that this was an inside job. Hopefully, everyone has implemented better security measures in light of this new information so that they can enjoy a safe and happy holiday season.
