Sister Wives Daughter Maddie Brown Won’t Be Polygamist
Kody Brown and his four wives have been the subject of TLC’s show, Sister Wives, for years but that doesn’t mean that their expansive brood intend to follow in their footsteps. In fact, one of their children recently became engaged and has been very clear about the fact that she plans to be the only wife for her future husband.
Maddie Rose Brown, Kody’s daughter with second wife, Janelle, accepted a marriage proposal from her now-fiancé, Caleb Brush. The 19-year-old told PEOPLE: “We are making plans for a wonderful outdoor wedding, hopefully in the country.”
The 28-year-old groom-to-be sought Kody’s approval before surprising Maddie during an ATV ride. He stopped at a scenic look-out point, presented the blue diamond ring and she said yes. As Maddie explained: “It was cold and we were huddled in jackets and I thought he was crazy to stop. He said to come look over here. So I walked with him to the edge. He told me he could never express how much he loved me, but he wanted to spend his life trying, and went down in one knee and pulled out a box. I started kissing him and saying, ‘Yes, yes!'”
The young woman shared the big news with her fans by tweeting: “Happy to share this with you guys.” “I showed Caleb the song I have wanted to walk down the [aisle] to since I was 15. He got a little emotional when hearing it. So sweet!!”
Since Maddie is so young, many fans wondered if her impending marriage meant that she would be dropping out of school. She reassured everyone via Twitter that she would still be finishing school and that she plans to “go all the way through till [she] finish with [her] Law degree.”
TLC also shared details and congratulated the couple on their big news. In a statement, the network said: “Love is in the air for Sister Wives‘ daughter Maddie who is newly engaged to fiance Caleb Brush! And, despite growing up in a polygamist family, Maddie and Caleb are opting to have a monogynous marriage.” In an interview, Brush reiterated that point and told People: We are not living plural marriage. We support Maddie’s family with their choice of living plural marriage and they support us with our choice in just marrying each other.”
So far, the entire Brown family seems happy for Caleb and Maddie and have tweeted well-wishes. Maddie’s decision comes at an interesting time for the expansive clan, however. Kody secretly divorced his first wife, Meri, in fall 2014. The Browns later said that they made the decision “together as a family” so that he could marry his youngest wife and assume custody of her three children.
