Any child can be born into difficult circumstances but the children of celebrities face unique challenges. From virtually the moment she was born, Bobbi Kristina Brown, was surrounded by addiction and mental illness in addition to all of the other stressors that can come with living in the spotlight. Unfortunately, her short life has already come to an end and we are all left wondering whether her upbringing ultimately led to her demise.
Bobbi Kristina was the daughter of former New Edition star, Bobby Brown, and the late, legendary singer, Whitney Houston. When they first got together, people wondered about their compatibility. He was a so-called “bad boy” whereas she had the exact opposite reputation yet, for a time, they seemed to make it worse. Sadly, things spiraled out of control and their daughter watched it all.
Bobby had been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder as a child and was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder in his thirties. To cope with the symptoms, he turned to alcohol at an early age. At some point in his marriage to Whitney, the couple began using heavy drugs including cocaine and crack but it’s unclear how that truly began. What is known, however, is that this affected both of their careers, led to legal woes and, eventually, cost Whitney her life – she was found unresponsive in a bathtub on February 11, 2012 and later died. The coroner’s report listed heart disease and cocaine use as the cause of death and indicated that the drugs diphenhydramine, alprazolam, cannabis and cyclobenzaprine were also found in her system.
On January 31, 2015, Bobbi Kristina was found unresponsive in a bathtub in her Roswell, Georgia, home and few could deny how similar the scene was to her own mother’s death. For nearly six months, she was kept on life support but never fully regained consciousness. Her family released the following statement yesterday:
“Bobbi Kristina Brown passed away July 26, 2015, surrounded by her family. She is finally at peace in the arms of God. We want to again thank everyone for their tremendous amount of love and support during these last few months.”
Her father, Bobby, was reportedly inconsolable as he came to terms with the fact that she would never recover while simultaneously welcoming a daughter with his new wife, Alicia Etheredge, earlier this month. Undoubtedly, this is a highly emotional time for him.
“The death of Bobbi Kristina Brown has been reported to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office in accordance with state death investigation laws requiring investigation of known or suspected non-natural deaths. Because the events at her home leading to her death occurred in Fulton County (Roswell), her death has been reported to the Fulton County Medical Examiner for determination of the cause, manner, and circumstances of death. Despite the long interval between her being found unresponsive and her death, an autopsy will still be necessary to further evaluate possible causes of death or contributing factors.”
Additionally, the months between the initial incident and Bobbi Kristina’s death will “complicate reconstruction of the events surrounding her initial unresponsiveness. Interpretation of autopsy findings and other information will also be challenging. However, an autopsy could be helpful to address questions which may arise about the cause of her unresponsiveness and eventual death.”
Just days before being found unconscious, she tweeted: “Miss you mommy … :’) SO much … loving you more every sec.” She later added: “On my own.” Clearly, she was in a lot of pain. Hopefully, she can find some peace now.
