Let’s start this week off with some good celebrity news, shall we?
Your favorite country music legend and mine (well, definitely mine, and yours if you know what’s up) Randy Travis is officially on the road to sobriety!
If you remember, 2012 wasn’t that great a year for Travis.
Back in August, the “Forever and Ever Amen” singer crashed his car and wandered around naked on a Texas highway, leading to a driving while intoxicated (DWI) charge.
Shortly after that, he got into a bit of a scuffle in a church parking lot, and incident not to be confused with another scuffle in another church parking lot earlier in 2012.
Fortunately, the judge didn’t the 53-year-old crooner any celebrity treatment; I say “fortunately” both DWI is ridiculously dangerous (people get killed, Randy!) and because, damn it, I want him to get better!
Last Thursday, after Travis pled guilty to the DWI charge, his judge handed down a 180-day jail sentence which will be suspended as long as Travis completes a month in rehab, 100 hours of community service, and a two-year probation period.
Travis must also cough up a $2,000-fine and use an ignition interlock device on his vehicles which will prevent him from driving if his BAC is too high.
According to the Associated Press, Travis left the court room feeling grateful for his fans and the patrolmen who took care of him during the incident.
“I’m glad it’s behind me.”
The word is Randy’s working on a new album, and already has a handful of tour dates lined up.
