How are you feeling about 2020 so far?
Are you feeling confidence?
Are you feeling unmotivated?
If so, you are not alone.
We have gone through a lot in this nation since the start of the year. We have witnesses multiple crimes, multiple injustices, and a widespread virus that locked us inside our homes.
In this video, I will be discussing how the brain is processing all of this trauma.
The often responds to trauma in interesting ways. It is triggered by anything the brain interprets as a threat. The many protests and riots that we have seen has triggered the brain in some fashion. Two important parts of the brain that is triggered by threat is the amygdala and the cortex, primarily the prefrontal cortex.
The cortex is our logical, reasoning brain and focuses on interpreting facts. The amygdala is apart of the emotional centers of the brain and tends to react rather than respond. In other words, the amygdala is sensing “threat” and responding in an emotional fashion.
Understanding how these two parts of the brain respond to threat or trauma is essential to understanding how all of this is truly impacting you.
