    My husband suffered a severe psychotic break after several months of *less* sleep and then about four nights in a row of less than 4 hours sleep. So, absolutely, sleep is important. His psychiatrist has told us that poor sleep is actually both a trigger and a symptom of mania, so my husband is very careful about managing his sleep now.
