Times are tough right now, so it becomes even more important to try and actively find positives in day to day life. Looking for the positives can help to put you in a more stable, optimistic mindset, despite what’s going on in the world.
1. Write down 3 positives things at the end of each day
There are positives to be found even in the hardest of times if we look hard enough. At the end of each day, write down or simply actively think of 3 positives from your day. They can be as small or large as you like. Did you have a roof over your head today? Did you speak to someone you love? Did you eat something tasty? Are you warm and dry? Did you achieve a goal? Are you standing strong despite the challenges you’re facing? Did you see a video or read something that made you smile, even for a moment?
2. Start a positivity chain on social media
Encouraging other people to find the positives and to share theirs with others, can be a great way to foster a sense of community spirit and to spread optimism and hope. Post on any social media platform, and ask your followers to share something positive about their day and to pass it on.
3. Do 1 thing each day that really makes you smile
Find one thing to do that makes you smile or feel good inside. You could do something nice for someone else, you could pamper yourself, you could read a book, watch a film, listen to a cheerful song, treat yourself to a nice meal, whatever it is, as long as it’s something for you, that’s what matters.
4. Strengthen connections with loved ones
Reach out to loved ones to check on them. Tell them you love them. Write them letters. Spread kindness, and strengthen those important connections in your life. If you’re self-isolating and you’re stuck in the house with others, you could use this time to bond more, to learn more about each other, to find out about each other’s dreams for the future, or even just to have fun together.
5. Plan for the future
Whether you write it down, talk about it with someone else, or just think about it, making plans for the future can make you feel so much more hopeful. Is there a holiday you want to go on? Is there a new experience you want to try? Is there a career goal you want to reach?
6. Reassure yourself
If you find yourself worrying, reassure yourself in your head or out loud, as you would if a loved one came to you and was worried. What would you say to them? How kind would you be with them? Be that kind to yourself.
7. Put positive notes around your house
Putting positive quotes, reminders and mantras around your home in places you will see them as you go about your day to day life can cheer you up, even for a moment.
8. Find one new joke and tell it to somebody each day
Make someone laugh today! The feeling will make you smile. Find one joke each day and tell it to someone, whether it’s a stranger, someone on your social media or a loved one. Be silly and have fun.
