New Year, Same Me

I wrote a post last year about how I wasn’t setting new years resolutions, for many reasons. I still feel the same way. I have goals for my life in general, things that I would like to happen this year, but I don’t plan on setting any firm resolutions.

I’m still the same person

The date changing has not made me into a different person, I am still me. I am still fighting chronic and mental illness. I am still the wonderful, strong, confident person I was last year. Sometimes the new year comes with all this pressure, as though you need to change who you are and set huge goals to change your life.

You can make changes any time

It is exciting that it’s the start of the new year, and it is a chance to set your mind to what you want to achieve. Being in 2020 feels strange to me and it is a big deal. But every day can bring a chance for change. If you want to change something in your life, every day you wake up can be the start of that. You don’t need to wait for a significant date to do so. You also don’t need to change things just because it’s a new year if you are happy with where you are already.

Your life can be what you want to make it. At any point during the year, you can change direction, try something new, or walk away from something negative. The goals you had last year are still valid. If you achieved them, then that is so amazing! If you haven’t, then keep going; you’re heading in the right direction.

Continuing down a happy path

I am happy with who I am and where I am. This year I want to continue down the same path, to continue learning and growing, to continue heading in the positive direction I already have been. I want to keep working on the goals I already have, the things that matter to me and to keep trying to be the best version of myself that I can be.

I hope that 2020 brings you whatever it is that you need and want from it. If you want to set new goals, then I hope that you feel able to do that. If you are happy on the path you’re on, I hope you continue to embrace it. I wish you all the best possible year, may your dreams come true and your moods be as stable as possible.

New Year, Same Me
